Geographic location of data collection: Boat Field, Highwoods Country Park, Colchester, Essex, UK (central GPS coordinates of 51.902883, 0.910765). Funding: This research was funded by the University of Essex Impact Acceleration Account awarded by the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (Grant Ref: BB/X511171/1). METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION Global Positioning System (GPS) data: Commercial GPS sensors were deployed on three outdoor cattle. Locations were set to record every 15 minutes when the animals were active and the update rate was reduced when the animals were not active e.g., during the night, to save battery. Activity index: Measured by a dynamometer embedded in the cow-equipped sensors, where each movement along the heave axis over a half-hour period incremented the count by one. Temperature: Measured by the cow-equipped sensors every half an hour. DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION Number of variables: six. Number of rows: 28,912 (including column names). Variable List: Column 1. Time- values are in format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm and range from 29/09/2023 13:25 to 26/11/2023 23:56. UTC or UTC + 1 (BST). Column 2. Cattle ID (n = three individuals). Column 3. Latitude of the last known position in WGS84 (°) Column 4- Longitude of the last known position in WGS84 (°) Column 5- Activity- a count over a half an hour period. Column 6- Temperature (°C)
